One might logically assume that, since we live in a representative republic, every citizen has a right-- without undue burden-- to seek to be elected to represent their fellow citizens. Well, that's not quite the way things are at the moment. In most states, Arkansas included, you only have that right if you're going to represent the Democratic or Republican political parties. Everyone else, independent candidates included, must work to earn the right to have their names merely show up on the election ballot. This work consists of gathering large numbers of signatures from registered voters.
As a candidate for the Constitution Party, my party must first wage a successful signature-gathering campaign before I'm considered an official candidate for the CP. We must collect 10,000 signatures (along with addresses and dates of birth) which must then be verified by the Secretary of State. Actually, compared to the requirements of other states, Arkansas' requirements aren't all that bad. Nonetheless, I believe that this requirement-- repeated nationwide-- is a major reason why there is essentially no competition in the area of politics, political parties, elections, government power, etc. And we all know how markets devoid of competition always end up. Our modern-day American government is a perfect example!
But you can help change the status quo starting here in our state. You can join me and the other Constitution Party members and friends as we seek to inject some competition into Arkansas' current election cycle. With your help, CP-Arkansas can field candidates that will put pressure on incumbents and provide an alternative in some of the 70%+ of legislative races in this state that lack any opponent.
Please visit www.cparkansas.com to obtain a ballot access petition, and start the simple but critical task of collecting signatures from your family, friends, and co-workers who are registered to vote in Arkansas. A little effort now will result in a more satisfying election this November, I assure you.
Thank you for your service,
